Outfit of the day and 5 ways to look fashionable with minimal effort

I don’t know about you, but I have always had a green eye for girls who manage to look like they have just jumped out of a Vogue cover whilst still maintaining that “oh I just threw this thing on” look. Although I haven’t quite nailed down Kate Moss’s effortless glow, I have managed to come up with five ways that I believe can help maintain your appearance if you want to lie in bed for an extra twenty minutes.  Now don’t get me wrong, I have been NOTORIOUSLY known for taking a ridiculous amount of time to get ready, but this year I’ve had to slightly change my indulgent ways. All of sudden I’ve found myself with a little less time and a lot more to worry about! That being said, I still feel the need to arrive at university without looking somewhat like the bride of Frankenstein (the one with Robert De Niro at least). So without further ado, here are my five tips!

1. Hats

Too much humidity in the air? Forgot to shampoo and condition last night? Can’t be bothered to tackle those tangles? Or maybe you just feel like there is something missing from your outfit? Try a hat! I’ve been using this (hat) trick for years, and quite frankly it has never failed me. Personally, fedoras are my favorite, but I’ve also been searching high and low for the perfect newsboy hat, just like the one Julia Robers wore in Pretty Woman. I love that they’re on trend again!

My go to is this fedora from Old Khaki. It is very neutral and made really well.

2. A statement jacket

The reason why I love statement jackets is that they can dress up any outfit. All you need is a basic white t-shirt, some distressed jeans, a statement jacket and hey presto! You’ve got yourself a winning look.

This beautiful blush pink waterfall jacket is from Zara. The Faux-leather look adds an interesting texture to any outfit, making it possible to just throw on over any top.

3. Interesting sleeves

I’ve been a huge fan of this trend for a while now. Since purchasing my very first bell-sleeved jumper, I have not been able to buy anything with normal sleeves! This style is the best way to inject a little bit of drama into your everyday outfit. The best way to wear something like this is under a jacket with cropped sleeves so that the rippling cuffs can show.  Now you’re ready to swoosh through the streets with style!

This little green number was a steal from Zara. It’s so soft and is perfect for layering.

4. Booties instead of sneaks

Now don’t get me wrong, I have lived a large portion of my life in sneakers. It would take a lot for me to part with my white Stan-smiths or my black Nikes. However, if you are wanting to achieve a slightly more put-together look, booties are the way to go. Even with summer dresses and skirts, the right shoes can transform an outfit. If you’re looking for something that can do both casual and smart, try some little suede booties like these below.

I had to get my hands on these neutral suede booties by Hudson (They’re on sale at the moment!). They are incredibly comfortable and mould to your foot perfectly. I also love that they have a slightly pointed toe and a great heel that adds the perfect amount of height.

5. Dark Wash Jeans

It is definitely possible to make light jeans or blue jeans look fantastic, but in my opinion, this takes a little bit more planning when it comes to picking the other pieces for the outfit. Dark jeans have the ability to make an outfit look much more polished and chic, whereas light jeans will make an outfit look much more casual.  Obviously, this completely depends on what type of look you are trying to achieve.

These jeans are from Woolworths SA. I’ve had them for years and they still fit like a glove!

Well, there you have it! Enjoy your extra 20 minutes in bed!

I would also just like to thank my dear friend Nick for taking these photos for me! He’s super talented so check out his instagram account here!

What tips would you give for creating a stylish outfit with minimal effort?

  1. Hey Jenna, I tried reaching you some time ago about a collab but never heard anything back to you. Thought I’d try again via the comments as my mail perhaps didn’t reach you. If you’re open for collabs I’d love to get in touch with you. Feel free to write directly to my email laura@blogerize.com if you’re interested. Thanks 🙂
