Notting Hill and outfit of the day

Hello everybody!

Two weeks ago, I packed my bags and headed off on a little adventure to one of my favourite destinations; the United Kingdom. The motivation of the trip was to attend my lovely cousin’s wedding. However, we managed to pack in a lot of other fun activities too, including a short trip to Edinburgh (more on that soon!).

Most of the time we stayed in little villages within the Midlands area (The Cotswolds being my absolute favourite), but I decided to travel to London for a night to visit my friends, Justin and Louise, who have recently moved there. The night I arrived we headed to Soho for a late dinner and for a beautifully sculpted flower ice-cream. Both were delicious!  I absolutely love the buzz of London. There is something so exciting about it. The entire city is one great adventure, with something unique and fascinating around every corner. The people, the old buildings, the fashion, the lights and of course the weather, make London one of the most interesting cities to visit.

 

 

After a very late night of catching up and giggles over a packet of m&ms (thanks Justin!), we set our alarms for 8:30 with the plan to head out to Notting Hill the next morning.

I had never been to Notting Hill before and after seeing endless Instagram photos of the beautifully coloured houses, I knew that I just had to go! Not to mention, Notting Hill has to be one of my favourite movies of all time. If Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts cannot convince you to visit this beautiful place, I don’t know what will. All my expectations were met when we entered the vibrant little district. Unfortunately, it was a Sunday so the Portobello market was not on. That being said, there were still many little stalls and boutiques open. We spent a few hours looking around them. Justin was fascinated by many of the antique shops. Amusingly, one particular characterful antique shop owner took a liking to us and decided to give us  little history lesson on the derivation of  a couple traditional English sayings, including “stinking rich” and “piss poor”. You might want to look these two up. Oh, there’s nothing quite like the English.

After more exploring, a mandatory coffee from Starbucks and a juicy Panini from Joe & The Juice, we decided to head down a side road and try capture a classic Portobello road outfit photo.

I bought this lovely white cold – shoulder shirt on sale from Debenhams. That’s another thing I love about England – THEIR SALES! I truly believe that every girl needs to own a good quality white shirt, to pair with either distressed jeans or black leggings for a more formal look. The subtle embodied detail and scalloped edges of this shirt made me feel like it belonged in my wardrobe. For this day I paired it with my trusty Forever New faux jacket and  Poppy jeans, my Witchery patent leather trainers (similar here), Lovisa silver hoops and my gorgeous Fossil bag.

Unfortunately, it turns out that the residents of this road do not particularly enjoy the chatter and giggles of girls outside their houses, so after being shouted at by a lady who claimed we woke her up (at 12pm), we quickly scurried to another location.

We spent the rest of the day catching up and exploring the area where Justin and Louise live. It was so lovely to see them again, as well as have a London adventure. I’m already excited for another trip back to this amazing city!
