Here in Cape Town we like to celebrate summer holidays and weekends with good wine. We are so fortunate to be surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful estates, so there is often ample opportunity to grab a few friends and ‘wine’ down.
Last weekend, I was spoilt by a friend, who so kindly invited me to an open day at the spectacular Lazanou Organic Wine Estate. As we arrived we were offered a generous tasting, which we soon learnt, was the first of many. The owner of the wine estate, Josef Lazarus, walked around and introduced himself to all the guests as he told us fascinating stories about Lazanou wines, as well as the story behind Crackle, the resident pig, (who loves a good belly tickle). It turns out that Crackle has been the more fortunate pig out of his other siblings Snap and Pop…
As the evening progressed we were treated to a mouth-watering three course dinner. We watched the sun set behind the mountains and toasted our 6th (or 7th) glass of wine under the luminous moon. Of course my favourite dish was desert. We were served a freshly baked apple crumble, with huge dollops of homemade cream and meringues nearly the size of my face. The entire meal was a buffet, so seconds (or thirds) was definitely in order!
We left the wine estate feeling extremely content and rather jolly! I cannot wait to go back to Lazanou to enjoy their enchanting vineyards and sip on their award-winning wines (and make sure Crackle is still there).
Here are a few photos from the wonderful evening.
I am wearing my new Top Shop slip dress which was perfect for the occasion and the warm weather. I also wore my Charles and Keith black wedges and my trusty Ray Ban sunglasses.
